This quarter’s newsletter hosted an article entitled “Focus on Philanthropy: Americorps *VISTA”.  The article featured myself and two of my fellow VISTAS and described how we contribute to the organization. INsight issue 4 winter 2008

Focus on Philanthropy: Americorps* VISTA

Recently, Bosma Enterprises acquired three volunteers through the Americorps* Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) program.  Americorps is a division of the Corporation for National and Community Service Fedearl Agency.

Started in 1965, VISTA is on of the five major programs under the Americorps umbrella.  Frequently described as the “domestic Peace Corps” VISTA’s mission is to fight poverty.  Members commit to a year of full-time service – at a non-profit organization or a local government agency – to reduce illiteracy, improve health services, create businesses, expand programs and strengthen community groups.  VISTA’s sponsoring organization creates a 3-year project plan and 12-month long individual work plans for the volunteers.

Even though the three VISTA volunteers share the same workspace and mission at Bosma, they each have very different roles.

LISE COX is a Volunteer Recruitment Associate who promotes community support and awareness of Bosma Enterprises, as well as the development of effective recruitment strategies.  She also supports the development and maintenance of a volunteer database, adn keeping volunteer opportunities relevant.

BRITTINY CLINTON is the Community Outreach Associate.  her responsibilities include attending community events to raise awareness about Bosma Enterprises, and creating media resources as tools to raise awareness about Bosma’s services and programs.

JAMIE HEITZENRATER works in the department of philanthropy as a Development Associate.  She focuses on grant writing, and assists with fundraising projects and materials including the Bosma newsletter.

Bosma is thankful to have the volunteers and hopes to continue to expand it’s VISTA program by two more members this December.
